There has been a shift in accessorizing trends for more minimalistic and sleek accessories. Now, instead of chunky rings, humongous necklaces and twenty bangles per hand, people opt for more subtle pieces that blend in rather than stand out. Strong colors such as red and yellow have been replaced with more subtle shades like ochre and burnt umber.

Despite the change in accessorizing trends, there are several accessory trends that will forever stay with us. These are the timeless accessory trends.

1.Bold sunglasses

This trend is making a return from the 90s. The bigger and funkier the better. Bold sunglasses that are unique and have a personalized feel to them are the way to go. It is even better if the sunglasses have embellishments on their frames. Clear sunglasses with geeky frames are also making a comeback.

2.Looped earrings

These are a tried and tested timeless classic. They can be worn in either casual or formal settings. They work to define the jawline and accentuate the length of one’s neck. Looped earrings come in a variety of sizes. Choose the size that doesn’t feel too bulky for you.

Head wraps and head ties have recently made a comeback and in a big way too. There is something about trying this colorful scarfs that make you look more confident and even more graceful. Not to mention, you can tie them in several different ways to suit your mood and the occasion.

7 tips on wearing accessories

1. Choose one or two accessories and ditch the rest

When it comes to accessorizing, the first rule you should always remember is: keep it simple. Do not wear everything at once. Wearing all your accessories at once will result in you looking a bit trashy rather than classy.

Therefore, as you put your outfit together, experiment with one thing at a time. Always ask yourself this, “Can this outfit work without this piece?” If yes, then chances are you were just about to overdo it. This is your sign to reel it in a notch. Moreover, instead of layering numerous pieces, go for statement pieces that stand out on their own.

2. Forget the rule that says your shoes must match with your handbag

Long gone are the days when shoes needed to match with handbags in order for an outfit to be complete. Today, there are several ways that you can use your handbag or even your shoes to accessorize your outfit.

The easiest way to accessorize an outfit with your bag is by carrying a statement bag. You can also choose to go for a bright colored bag that will add a splash of color to your outfit.

You can also accessorize your outfit with the type of shoes you wear. Brightly colored shoes are a subtle and classy way of completing any outfit.

3. Pick one: bright clothes or loud accessories?

If you are trying to pull off a classy look, the way you accessorize your outfit is a large determinant. Before you accessorize, decide whether you will go for a bright outfit of loud accessorize. You can only pull off one of these at a time.

Therefore, it goes without saying that bright outfits should be completed with subtle accessories. Likewise, loud accessories go best with dull or pale colored clothes.

This is a simple rule that you should always abide by when accessorizing your outfits. It will also prevent you from looking like a walking Christmas tree if you overdo it.

4. Balance out your outfit

When it comes to balancing your outfit, it is all about evening out the colors. You wouldn’t want to wear an outfit that is too dull or one that is too bright.

Therefore, before you even start accessorizing, settle on the color pattern for your outfit. From there you can pick out the appropriate accessories. For example, you can use a brightly colored scarf to add some color to an all-white outfit. Likewise, you can wear a thin gold necklace with a brightly colored vintage shirt.

When you pair your accessories well, you allow your clothes and accessories to balance out instead of canceling each other out.

5. Embrace belts

Belts are the probably the easiest way to complete any outfit. You should have a variety of belts in your closet for a variety of accessorizing emergencies.

The reason belts work so well is because they go well with a number of outfits. Is your plain black dress looking a bit too plain? Add a belt. Is your trouser outfit just a bit too bland? Try a statement belt.

Aside from completing your outfit, belts also define your waist and accentuate the curve of your hips.

6. Get creative with scarfs

You can use scarfs to create a variety of outfits. You can buy a variety or scarfs in different colors, prints, and textures. When it comes to accessorizing with scarfs, do not limit yourself to just tying them around your neck. You can tie scarfs on your wrists, waist, and head or even use them on your bags.

However, there is one general rule when it comes to accessorizing with scarfs. Do not use your scarf to cover up large collars. That means you shouldn’t add a scarf to your outfit if your coat already comes with a layered collar.

7. Keep your rings simple

We all love to accessorize with rings. They not only complement our outfits but they also make our hands look great too.

However, when it comes to accessorizing with rings, always keep in mind that thick rings don’t really look good on thick short fingers. Therefore, when it comes to picking out a ring, consider the shape of your fingers. Thin rings are visually more pleasing on thick fingers.

Also, when it comes to rings, pick out more statement rings. The more unique the piece, the better for your outfit. When it comes to picking out rings, I always say, “the bigger, the better.”
