Your Ultimate Guide in Taking Care of Your Makeup

Most girls love putting on makeup. It’s a way for them to make a statement and to make themselves more appealing to others. For some, wearing makeup boosts their self-confidence. So, you can easily imagine how important makeup is for them.

Unfortunately, makeup products don’t last forever. So, it is important that we know how to take care of them so as to sustain, or possibly extend their shelf life. Here are guidelines on how to take care of your makeup products:

Make it a Habit to Check the Expiry Date of Your Makeup

Keeping tabs on your makeup’s expiry date will do you a lot of good since using expired makeup can cause some serious and unpleasant side effects, which includes irritation and infection. You should take note that there are certain products that actually expire much sooner than others. Some of those products are lipstick, cream foundation, mascara, and eyeliner. For instance, mascara should be thrown away three months after it was opened.

Know the Right Time to Clean Your Makeup Brushes

Since we are often using makeup brushes on our face, it is extremely important that we keep them clean. There are two types of makeup brushes: the synthetic brushes and the natural-bristle brushes.

Synthetic brushes easily get dirtied, and so it’s ideal to clean them every two to three days. On the contrary, natural-bristle brushes don’t usually collect dirt and bacteria easily. So, you should only clean them at least once a month. After washing your brushes, let them air-dry and store them in their proper containers.

Always Inspect the Texture of the Makeup

Sometimes a makeup product can tend to go bad even before its expiry date. There are a number of factors that can contribute to that, but what’s more important is that you know how to determine whether a product is still good or not.

One way to tell whether a product is expired is through its texture. If you notice a significant change in texture, it could mean that the product is already expired and not fit for consumption.

Store Your Makeup in Proper Containers

If you want to ensure that your makeup product will last for a long time, then you should know how to properly store them. Store them in a cool and dry place. Never store them on a bathroom cabinet or in any place that is damp or moist. Keeping them there can cause the products to expire faster.

Moreover, don’t let your makeup product melt in your bag or freeze in the car since there is a possibility that the emulsification will stop working then. In other words, it could potentially destroy the product.

Take Care of Your Makeup Pencils

We use various makeup pencils to help us with our beauty needs. Make sure to sharpen your pencils once a week so as to ensure that no fungus will accumulate on the tip. If you notice your pencil getting softer, one way to solve that is to store it inside the refrigerator for 30 to 45 minutes.

Now, when you see some white spots on the tip of your pencils, then that would be the best time to discard it because it means that it has already expired.

Toss the Bad One’s Out

Tossing out expired ones is perhaps the best way that you can keep your makeup products clean and safe-for-use. The easiest way to identify expired products is through smell. Expired products usually smell foul or just different.

If you get a whiff even just a hint of anything unpleasant in your product, then you should throw it away immediately.

Now you know how to take care of your tools and products. Resist the urge to get sloppy and make sure that your makeup items are well-maintained. Doing this will not only sustain their shelf life, but you are also making sure that they won’t irritate or damage your face.
